Ten mistakes that ruin Discord outreach campaigns

The recurring errors we see in DM campaigns, and the fix for each one.

Almost every underperforming campaign we see contains at least three of these. None of them are hard to avoid.

Targeting and setup

  • Too few target servers, which slows delivery and narrows reach
  • Expired invite links in the target list
  • Broad servers chosen for member count instead of relevance
  • An invite link that expires mid campaign

Message

  • A message longer than a screen
  • Three links competing for one click
  • No clear ask at the end
  • Claims that sound too good to be true

After the click

  • A silent server with no pinned offer
  • Nobody available to answer on launch day

The fix

Work backwards from the destination. Make the landing experience good, then write the shortest message that describes it honestly, then gather as many relevant servers as you can. In that order, campaigns tend to work.
